March Book of Choice Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the March Book of Choice Giveaway Hop, hosted by FLYLēF.

The rules for this Giveaway Hop are simple. Once a month, participants in the hop give away either a book of the winner’s choice to, of course, the winner, or the means to buy same. Meaning a gift card.

I like giving away books and gift cards, so here I am in my first Book of Choice Hop. I love the idea of this hop, but so many firsts of the month are on weekends this year. It’s kind of weird the way the calendar works.

So, what book coming out this month are you most looking forward to getting your hands on, or sinking your teeth into if you already have it? For me, it’s a toss-up between In this Grave Hour by Jacqueline Winspear, the next book in her Maisie Dobbs series and The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi. What about you?

For the Love of Books Giveaway Hop

ForTheLoveOfBooks giveaway hop

Welcome to the For the Love of Books Giveaway Hop, hosted by Stuck in Books.

It will not be a surprise to anyone that I love books. I love to read and I always have. One of my favorite things about going to college was that I could finally read at the lunch or dinner table if I wanted to – and I always wanted to. Still do.

Of course, in order to continue to do that I had to marry another reader. Reading together at dinner is very companionable – even in restaurants!

But the question of what book I love the most is always a stumper for me. I love lots and lots (and LOTS) of books. Picking out one, or even just a few, is always difficult.

My first love, still and probably forever, is The Lord of the Rings. From my first read in 4th grade through my 20s, I probably read it more than two dozen times. Now that I can listen in my car again, I’m probably due for a re-listen.

There are plenty of other books that have claimed places in my heart, stories that have touched me and continue to do so. Like The Chronicles of Narnia. And Heinlein’s The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, although not for the same reasons, of course. If someone is looking for a thoughtful mystery, I always recommend Louise Penny’s Chief Inspector Gamache series. And there’s a huge soft spot in my heart for Sherlock Holmes. The list goes on.

What about you, what book do you love the most? Or what book do you love to recommend the most? Just think how big a TBR pile we can create together, if we all recommend our favorites!

Best of 2016 Giveaway Hop

best of 2016 giveaway hop

Welcome to the Best of 2016 Giveaway Hop, Hosted by Bookhounds.

I somehow manage to do a lot of “Best of the Year” lists. One for me, one for Library Journal, and one for the SFR Galaxy Awards. But the Galaxy Awards haven’t been announced yet, and I’m not going to give spoilers. But still, two lists. And no matter how many titles are one the official list, I usually manage to squeeze a few more onto the lists in one way or another. When I like a book, I really, really like it.

And I like books a lot. I also like a lot of books.

I’m giving away a $10 Gift Card or a $10 Book from either my Best of 2016 or Best E-Originals posts. So take a look and let me know which one is your favorite!

Jeepers It’s January Giveaway Hop

jeepers its january giveaway hop 2017

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Jeepers! It’s January Giveaway Hop, hosted by The Mommy Island and The Kids Did It.

Why? Because jeepers, it is January. Even if it doesn’t really feel like winter here, it is still definitely winter. The nights are just as long and dark, even if they aren’t always cold.

It’s also a great time for this book blog to give away some bookish prizes. Long winter nights are a great time to curl up with a good book!

So, I’ll be giving away the winner’s choice of either a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository. For those who either want a book or are international visitors who don’t have a good way of using an Amazon Gift Card, the requirement is that you need an address where Book Depository ships.

Midwinter’s Eve Giveaway Hop

midwinters-eve-2-new-2016

Welcome to the 2016 Midwinter’s Eve Giveaway Hop, hosted by Bookhounds!

This is the time of year when lots of different traditions have a holiday. Today is the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, and a lot of holidays, stretching back to ancient traditions, celebrated this turning point in the year.

It is possible that even Stone Age people marked the solstice. This seems to have been one of the reasons behind the building of Stonehenge. On a tour there, one tour guide called the period when the great stone circle was built the “loony Neolithic”. This wasn’t so much in reference to those ancient beliefs as that the primitive hunter-gatherer society has to have devoted a LOT of relatively scarce resources for many, many years into building the site. It does make one wonder what they were thinking. But then, whoever comes after us millennia from now will probably look at our artifacts and wonder what we were thinking, too.

And if you’ve never read Motel of the Mysteries by David Macaulay, there’s a book that will make you think seriously about what future archaeologists will think of us. It will also make you at least chuckle a lot, if not laugh until your sides ache.

But back to the hop!

These long winter nights (and chilly days) are the perfect time to curl up with a good book and a sleepy kitty. (Cat optional for those who prefer other furry companions, or people! to warm their toes on).

This bloghop has mountains, snowdrifts even, of bookish prizes available. But before you check out the other stops on the hop, be sure to fill out the rafflecopter for a chance at the prize right here – the winner’s choice of a $10 Book or a $10 Gift Card.

Winter is Coming Giveaway Hop

winteriscomingbutton

Welcome to the Winter is Coming Giveaway Hop,  hosted by The Kids Did It and The Mommy Island.

Winter is definitely coming. Or perhaps it’s already here where you are. It’s chilly and wet in Atlanta, but nothing like the winters we went through in Chicago and Anchorage. In Chicago, you know it’s cold when you are standing on the platform waiting for the “L” and you see the pigeons huddling under the heatlamps on the other side!

I may miss lots of things about both Anchorage and Chicago, but winter is not one of them. Even here in Atlanta, the chillier weather makes a good excuse for staying home and curling up with a cat or two and a good book or ten.

Speaking of curling up with a good book, enter the rafflecopter for your chance at a $10 Gift Card or Book. One way or another there’s something to curl up to in this prize.

Black Friday Book Bonanza Giveaway Hop

BFBB2016Button500x667Optimized

Welcome to the Black Friday Book Bonanza Giveaway Hop, hosted by yours truly, Reading Reality, and the Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

This is my very first time hosting a Giveaway Hop, and I can’t thank Kimba at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer nearly enough for all of her help and guidance. Without her, this hop wouldn’t have managed to get off the ground. Thank you so much, Kimba!

But about Black Friday. This may be one of the perfect days to participate in a giveaway hop. While there are some poor unfortunate souls who have to work today, for the rest of us, it’s a day for friends and family and recovering from yesterday’s turkey coma.

The holiday season may be a wonderful time of the year, as so many of the songs say, but it is a lousy time to go shopping, or be anywhere near a mall. Parking is horrendous. It is much more fun to shop online – there’s no waiting and no crowds. Personally, I don’t think it’s just Cyber Monday any more, I think it’s Cyber Weekend, and I’m just fine with that.

Freddie-cat likes it better too. He’s still a growing boy, and needs his humans around to provide both first and second breakfast, along with lunch and dinner. And occasionally second dinner if he makes enough of a nuisance of himself.

So, if you are planning to stay home and shop in your jammies with a cat holding down your lap, here’s your chance to win a $10 Gift Card or $10 Book.

And always, for more fabulous prizes be sure to visit the other stops on this hop. Happy Holidays!

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

spooktacular-2016

Halloween is right around the corner. That means it’s time for the Spooktacular Giveaway Hop, hosted by Bookhounds!

So let’s talk about what spooks us.

I’ll admit that Pumpkin Spice Everything is really starting to creep me out. I like pumpkin pie as much as the next person, but seriously, Pumpkin Spice Cheerios? Never mind the Pumpkin Spice Triscuit crackers. That just sounds WRONG. But maybe not as wrong as the Pumpkin Spice Bailey’s and the Pumpkin Spice-filled Truffles. The only Pumpkin Spice thing I’ve liked so far is this one:

pumpkin spikes latte

So what are you scared of this Halloween? If you’re looking for a scary book to read, I highly recommend Teeth, Long and Sharp by Grace Draven, Antioch Grey, Aria M Jones, Jeffe Kennedy and Mel Sterling. All the stories in collection are good, but the last one, Voice of the Knife by Mel Sterling, gave me the shivers to the point I needed a hug and hot drink afterwards. And the hot drink was NOT Pumpkin Spice Anything!teeth long and sharp by jeffe kennedy et al

For Halloween, I have two books that have spooky-related themes, but are probably not too scary: Shadowed Souls edited by Kerrie L. Hughes and Jim Butcher here at Reading Reality, and Ghost Maker by Robin D. Owens over at the Book Pushers.

What scary books are you planning to read this Halloween? Or what’s your favorite scary book? Answer in the Rafflecopter for your chance at a $10 Gift Card or $10 Book. No pumpkin spice allowed!

Bugs & Hisses Giveaway Hop

bugs and hisses giveaway hop

Welcome to the Bugs & Hisses Giveaway Hop, hosted by The Kids Did It and The Mommy Island.

Isn’t that a cute little spider? My opinion of spiders was forever changed by the evil Shelob in The Lord of the Rings. Now THAT was a spider! <shudder>

Speaking of bugs, however, our new kitten Freddie has taken to chasing invisible flies. Or fleas. Or leaping into the air for no good reason whatsoever. It’s been a long time since we had a very young cat, and we’d forgotten how funny, and occasionally destructive, a cat with the zoomies can be. He’s adorable. And we’re moving the breakables to higher shelves.

It’s definitely Fall now, even here in Atlanta. And now that October has begun we’re starting to see Halloween decorations sprout on people’s lawns. That is, if hay bales and scarecrows actually sprout.

Although speaking of sprouting, the stores are starting to bring out their Halloween candy. Temptation, thy name is Hershey. At least for me.

Speaking of temptation, I’m always tempted by a good book. (I have one burning a virtual hole in my iPad as we speak). So I’m offering the temptation of a $10 Gift Card or $10 Book to one lucky winner for my stop on the Bugs & Hisses Giveaway Hop.
