The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 5-13-18

Sunday Post

Today’s edition of The Sunday Post brought to you by “Round Tuit”, otherwise known as the hurrieder I go, the behindeder I get. Weekends are just not long enough.

You might have noticed that King of Ashes by Raymond Feist was listed as “Coming Next Week” on last week’s Sunday Post, and that it is repeating itself here. I didn’t have quite enough time this past week, but I finished it this morning and it is awesome. Review tomorrow.

And speaking of getting ’round to things, the May I Suggest Giveaway Hop ends on Tuesday, just as the Life’s A Beach Giveaway Hop begins.

And a Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there, whether your children have two feet or four feet, skin, fur, feathers or scales! Freddie and Lucifer are firmly convinced that they don’t need to give me anything for Mothers’ Day except their sweet selves – and they’re right!

Current Giveaways:

$10 Gift Card or $10 Book in the May I Suggest Giveaway Hop (ends TUESDAY!)

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 5-6-18

Sunday Post

After most of a week away, it’s good to be home. The cats certainly missed us. And have needed to tell us so – all night long. But we love them anyway – or perhaps because. And Freddie forgot to pull up the rest of the kitchen floor, so it’s all good.

On a much brighter and slightly less destructive note, this is the first week, I think EVAR, where I had two A+ books. If you’re looking for a meaty and weighty fantasy to really sink your reading teeth into, I highly recommend both The Queens of Innis Lear AND The Poppy War. Choosing which book to highlight in this post was like picking a favorite child. I loved them both so, so much. So I’m featuring both of them!

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 4-29-18

Sunday Post

We’re planning to see Avengers: Infinity War on Saturday, so by the time you read this I will know ALL THE THINGS. But as I write this on Friday, that’s still in the future, so infinite possibilities abound. But I can’t wait to see Thor on a road trip with Rocket and Groot. That’s going to be awesome!

If you’ve seen my past few Sunday Posts, you might recognize that The Queens of Innis Lear keeps showing up on Sunday as “Coming Next Week”, but doesn’t quite make it to the finish line when the day comes. I usually only list a particular title three times before I figure out that it isn’t meant to be, for whatever reason. But this time I’m positive the review will appear, because I’ve already finished the book – and it is marvelous. For those not familiar with the genesis of the book, The Queens of Innis Lear is a fantasy telling of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, King Lear. But the full title of that play is The Tragedy of King Lear, so don’t go in expecting a happy ending. But do expect a fantastic as well as a fantastical story.

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 4-22-18

Sunday Post

Looking at my Stacking the Shelves post yesterday, it feels as if a bookstore exploded in my house. Or at least within the confines of my iPad’s kindle app. However, we also took a trunkload of books to Half Price Books this weekend, so hopefully it all balanced out. Sorta/kinda.

As always, so many books, so little time. Or there’s the Groucho Marx version, “Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s (or anyone’s) best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read!”

Sunday Post

Now I know my Blogo-Birthday is really past – all the Rafflecopters have finished for the week of giveaways. But next year’s Blogo-Birthday is only 350-ish days away! LOL

I really wanted to include a review of Cave of Bones by Anne Hillerman this past week, but…My Dear Hamilton, which was absolutely marvelous, weighed in at 670 pages. By the time I finished, I was kind of out of reading juice and had a terrible book hangover. I finished Cave of Bones over the weekend and it is just as absorbing as every book in the series has been.

Don’t forget, the April Book of Choice Giveaway Hop ends TONIGHT!!!!!

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 4-8-18

Sunday Post

It’s been a wonderful Blogo-Birthday Celebration Week. I got to review lots of great books, I hosted a whole bunch of giveaways, and hopefully a good time was had by all. But now it’s time to call it a week – at least until next year. All of the giveaways are still open, so you have plenty of time to get in, or tweet about the giveaways to get more chances to win.

I want to take this opportunity to once again thank all of you who read, follow or just stop in here at Reading Reality. And I also want to give a shout out and a very warm thank you to the two authors who sponsored giveaways for my celebration, Anna Hackett and Dan Koboldt. I love their books, so I’m very happy to have a chance to share them with more readers.

Today is the start of an entirely different celebration week. It’s National Library Week, at least here in the U.S. So if you haven’t visited your local library in a while, please take this opportunity to stop by and see what they have to offer, whether in person or online.

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 3-18-18

Sunday Post

This week marked my first A+ Review for the year, for Blood of the Four by Christopher Golden and Tim Lebbon. If you like epic fantasy at all, this one is not only awesome, but also complete in a single not-quite-a-doorstop volume. I picked this one because The Map of Moments by these same two gentlemen is one of my absolute favorite books about post-Katrina New Orleans. That one is urban fantasy rather than epic, but equally awesome.

I also have three blog hops going on, and these will last until the end of the month. When not only will the April Book of Choice Giveaway Hop begin, but my Seventh Annual Blogo-Birthday week will commence. I’ll be giving stuff away all week to commemorate the OMG seventh anniversary of the start of Reading Reality as well as my own birthday. There should be something to appeal to everyone!

Current Giveaways:

$10 Gift Card or $10 Book in the All About Diversity Blog Hop
$10 Gift Card or $10 Book in the Lucky Leprechaun Giveaway Hop
$10 Gift Card or $10 Book in the March into Madness Giveaway Hop

The winner of the $10 Gift Card or $10 book in the March Book of Choice Giveaway Hop is Valentina.
The winner of the ebook copy of Surrender My Heart by L.G. O’Connor is Alli.
The winner of the print copy of Rainbirds by Clarissa Goenawan is Dianna.

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 3-11-18

Sunday Post

One door closes, other doors open. The March Book of Choice Giveaway Hop ends on Thursday, just as the Lucky Leprechaun Giveaway Hop and the March into Madness Giveaway Hop begin. Meanwhile, the All About Diversity Giveaway Hop started early this morning and runs until the end of the month – just in time for the April Book of Choice Giveaway Hop to start.

If you like urban fantasy that may or may not be touched with a bit of paranormal romance, and you have not looked into Anne Bishop’s world of The Others, it might be time to start. I love this series (Cass hates it, she hates everything unless there are dragons in it). But even she admits that they are reading crack. Once you pick one up, you can’t put it down.

Did you remember to SPRING FORWARD? Daylight saving time starts today in the U.S. Which means we all lost an hour of reading-time last night!
