The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 1-17-21

Sunday Post

It was definitely a grade B sort of week. No real highs, no serious lows. Just some decent reads – along with an audiobook I totally bailed on. C’est la vie. Hopefully this week will be better. The audiobook I started is certainly a vast improvement – which gives me hope!

The picture below proves that cats rule the universe. Lucifer decided to take over Galen’s monitors and his Zoom meeting. Isn’t he gorgeous? I have a multi-day Zoom meeting starting on Friday and I’m hoping that he’ll come invade my meeting too!

Sunday Post

I know doomscrolling is bad but have you SEEN the quality of the doom this week? I’m paraphrasing something that Galen saw on the twitters late this week, but the point is well made. This has been a week, and next week promises to be just as “interesting”. At least in the sense that “may you live in interesting times” is a curse and not a blessing.

Which leads directly to the cat picture. Because the clowder absolutely are blessings in our lives, even if they do occasionally go “pointy-side out” with abandon. Especially George. Lucifer is much more of a gentleman, but they are still best buds, as shown below.

Sunday Post

Last week it seemed appropriate to read a week of romances, with their requisite happy endings, as a run up to Xmas Day on Friday. This week it seems even more apropos to have a week of speculative fiction leading up to New Years’ Day, because we all have plenty of speculation about what next year will bring, and a hell of a lot of hope, but, well, we’ll see. So this week’s books will be looking at the future, the science of parallel worlds, and the sheer exuberant fun of a worlds’ spanning library.

We’ll see what next year brings, next year, starting with next week. OMG 2021 starts next week! The kitties are ready! They’re planning to nap through EVERYTHING!

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 12-20-20

Sunday Post

This is Xmas week. Which is making me feel like this should be a week for books with happy endings. Even if this holiday isn’t quite as upbeat as other years, it still feels like better things are on the horizon. Next week I’ll be back to my usual mix of aliens, evil, evil aliens, monsters, murders and historical drama – not necessarily all in one week. But this week feels like there should be some happy books at the tippy top of my towering TBR pile. Of course, I could change my mind in the middle!

But speaking of happy things, here’s a picture of an adorable cuddle puddle of Freddie and George. Either they are both trying to fit into a cat bed that is frankly too small now for either of them singly, or George just wants to be as close as possible to his “big brother” – at least until the inevitable rumble breaks out.

Happy Holidays!

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 12-13-20

Sunday Post

To tie this Sunday Post with a lovely ribbon, here’s a picture of my handsome house panther watching the leaves fall. He’s just such a beautiful boy, and so very sweet. He’s the first cat who has passed through our lives since Galen and I moved in together who considers me “his” person. (Galen is definitely the “cat whisperer” in our house. They nearly all love him best!) Lucifer’s affection is absolutely lovely if occasionally quite literally a bit crushing. He likes to sleep on my chest or in my face with his whiskers shoved up my nose. It tickles.

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 12-6-20

Sunday Post

Today’s picture, perfect for a lazy Sunday morning, are the cuddle boys, Freddie and George. Aren’t they adorable?

It feels like it’s been quite the week here at Chez Reading Reality, I’m just not quite sure why. Some weeks just seem longer than others – especially without a holiday in the middle! It’s always hard to get back on track after, but fun during – even a relatively quite holiday like this one. But there are always good books to read. This week I had one that I loved and hated and loved by turns, one that was good, and one that was great but much too short. Considering the length of the first book, this week was kind of the long and the short of it!

And it’s time to say goodbye to the Black Friday Giveaway Hop for another year. Thanks a bunch to everyone who participated!

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 11-29-20

Sunday Post

This picture seems appropriate for the post-Thanksgiving weekend. It’s Freddie in the classic “if I fits, I sits” position in a shoebox. The box formerly held Galen’s new slippers, so Men’s size 11. Let’s just say there is a LOT of Freddie to love!

Speaking of lots of things to love, with the Thanksgiving holiday comes the start of Giveaway Hop Season! Not that there aren’t hops all year ’round, but there are certainly a lot around the holidays. So four hops end this week and two more begin, with even more before 2020 finally winds its way down. There’s plenty to look forward to as we all wait for the ball – or the peach – or the apple – or whatever your town drops – to hit bottom.

Then, hopefully, we rise!

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 11-22-20

Sunday Post

I would be remiss if I did not mention that the Black Friday Giveaway Hop, hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Reading Reality, starts this Friday, Black Friday, November 27. It’s not too late to sign up if you’re looking for something to post the day after Thanksgiving, and if you’re looking for a chance at a bit of holiday cheer for yourself, the hop runs through Monday, November 30. Come one, come all!

The picture below is “Old Man George”. Not that George is old, or will be for hopefully many years as he’s not quite a year old yet. But there’s something about his pose and the expression on his little face that made me think that this is what he will look like when he’s a little old man cat. He’ll still be adorable – of course he will – but the zoomies might have calmed down a bit by then. Maybe.

This is also the start of Turkey Week in the U.S., otherwise known as the Thanksgiving holiday. We did pick up our “traditional” turkey boob yesterday at the grocery store, along with just enough fixings for two people to have a little feast. Hopefully the cats won’t interfere in the preparation process TOO much! In spite of EVERYTHING, we still have a lot to be thankful for, and I hope that you do too!

Please take care of you and yours, and have a safe and happy holiday!

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 11-15-20

Sunday Post

The picture below is from Friday afternoon. I looked up from my computer and saw that all of the male cats in the house were recharging their solar powered generators in the entry. (The box in the picture is, you guessed it, a box of books. Or as we refer to them in this house, more coals being delivered to Newcastle. Although more books arriving here is never pointless or superfluous, it is occasionally overwhelming.
