The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 8-15-21

First, here’s a picture of George in his very serious pose. It’s been that kind of week.

Second, this week kind of threw itself into a blender at one point. During a workout I managed to hit myself in the face with an exercise ball, cut up the inside of my mouth, and gave myself a couple of days of a terrible headache. Thankfully I didn’t chip any teeth! It’s amazing how much of a pain it is to mess up your mouth that way even if you don’t do any permanent damage. The entire experience also makes me seriously wonder why anyone plumps their lips, because wow everything hurt for a while. It’s mostly healed at this point but it made for a weird kind of week. Lots of good reading though, at least once my head stopped hurting!

And see what’s coming this week! Giveaways are back after the long, hot summer!

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 8-8-21

At least this week I’m attempting to plan ahead. I’m reading a really long book that I really, really want to read, but it’s not due out for a couple of months so I can’t post the review for a while. So this is a week of mostly short books to make up for all the time I’m spending with this other book. If any of that makes sense. Sometimes books just call my name and I HAVE to read them to stop the little voice shouting “READ ME!!!) from driving me any more bananas than I already am.

Here’s George in his favorite place, the stairs! It’s the perfect position to keep his eye on the front door AND my office door. While he can’t SEE Galen’s office he can certainly hear if Galen leaves his office AND he forms a perfect kitty pediment to ensure that if Galen comes down the stairs he’ll have to acknowledge George’s presence – or trip over him as George takes up an entire stair tread when he wants to – as he usually does.

It is obviously very important to George that he keeps an eye or an ear or both on EVERYTHING!

I posted this oldie but goodie on this same day last year. It’s still true. It’s ALWAYS true.

Another month ends.
All targets met.
All systems working.
All customers satisfied.
All Staff eagerly enthusiastic.
All pigs fed and ready to fly.

And here’s Lucifer’s opinion of the whole thing:

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 7-25-21

This seems to have been an A- kind of week, whatever that might mean, in spite of dealing with cars that were complaining that their tires just weren’t right. All fixed now but annoying while it’s going on. As car things often are.

Today’s cat picture is George, because he’s just so photogenic when he’s not being a clown. Like all cats, he likes to be in the sunshine getting his solar batteries recharged. Not that George’s batteries ever seem to lose their charge. After all, he’s just barely out of kittenhood! But there he is, in all of his orange striped tabby glory, being striped in the opposite direction by the sun shining through the blinds in Galen’s office.

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 7-18-21

Today’s picture is of a later session in last week’s boy cat convention. They seem to have resumed deliberation when the sun came out. I know the sunshine surrounding them makes them look like little angels, but I do believe they were planning a bit of deviltry during this discussion. Or at least the destruction of as many toilet paper rolls as they could get their paws on!

And again, the session broke up when I tried to get in closer. I’m obviously NOT supposed to hear whatever Freddie and Lucifer are whispering in each other’s ears!

I’ve pretty much arranged things so that I have all short books this week. I have two “secret” books that I have to finish and write reviews of, so I’m kind of squished. I am eternally grateful to Tordotcom because there are weeks – like this one – where I don’t know what I’d do without their marvelous novellas.

So many books, so little time!

I think I started five different books before I finally got stuck into Shadows Have Offended. I’ve been looking for comfort reads, and re-reading a LOT of fanfiction, so I finally just gave in and picked up some of the licensed variety – as that’s what media tie-in novels feel like to me. YMMV. Also, between playing Mass Effect: Andromeda and loving both Project Hail Mary and A Psalm for the Wild-Built last week, I’m still in an SFnal kind of mood.

This week’s cat picture looks like all the boy cats decided to have a convention in the front hallway – or at least a terribly serious meeting about something. And probably something that the humans in the house should worry about. A lot. (Sorry the picture is small. When I tried to get closer, the convention broke up. I guess they really didn’t want me to learn what they were plotting!)

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 7-4-21

Today is the actual Fourth of July, so Happy Independence Day to everyone in the U.S.

It’s also a three-day weekend this year (AND NEXT YEAR!), which means an extra long weekend of reading – or whatever floats your boat. Come to think of it, one could read while floating on that boat! I’m in the middle of four big epic fantasy books, and should manage to finish at least ONE this weekend. We’ll see.

Last week, I had a request to turn What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand into a meme with a link up, so the link up is at the bottom. My books are mostly ebooks, hence the “Mostly Virtual” in the title. If yours are too, feel free to link up here as well as to Caffeinated Reviewer’s Sunday Post. The more we link, the more we books we can add to our towering TBR piles!

Last but not least – definitely not least as Freddie and George are our two biggest cats – here’s this week’s cat picture. Freddie likes to climb. George actually doesn’t, which is kind of a surprise as he certainly has the legs for it. But here we have Freddie, as usual posing as the Prince of Quite A Lot, looking down upon George, posing as his lonely, downtrodden minion.

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 6-27-21

It’s going to be a lazy Sunday here at Chez Reading Reality, because certain humans were up much too late last night playing Mass Effect Andromeda again. Here’s a picture of sleepy Hecate snoozing in the sun and a very sneaky George photobombing her close up. I’ve just realized that George looks an awful lot like the cover picture of the cat Eggs Benedict in the Alaskan Diner series, so he’s even appropriate for this coming week’s books!

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 6-20-21

Today is Father’s Day. I still miss mine, even after 30 years. If yours is still around, and your relationship is halfway good, it’s a day for a visit or a phone call. If yours isn’t still around, or if your relationship isn’t, it’s a day for reflection – or however you deal with that loss whether it’s through death or otherwise.

Now back to our regularly scheduled discussions of books and cats. Speaking of which, here’s a picture of both. Folks often mention that my Stacking the Shelves posts are quite huge, or the stacks are VERY tall, or put it some other way that makes it clear that people wonder how it happens. The picture above illustrates how. This is one week of UPS deliveries and I have to believe that the UPS person HATES me. George T. Cat included for scale – and giggles.

The Sunday Post AKA What’s on my (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 6-13-21

A few weeks ago I posted a picture of Freddie as the “Prince of Quite A Lot” of paper products. His “throne” has been raised to new heights!

I have to say that this week’s schedule gets a bit iffy after the blog hop on Wednesday. There will be posts – there will always be posts! But I’ve found myself feeling different books than the books I thought I was going to feel for the last couple of weeks and it could happen again!
