Covergasm Blog Hop

covergasm
Welcome to the Covergasm Blog Giveaway Hop, hosted by Herding Cats and Burning Soup!

Since this hop is all about fantastic book covers, I’m going to share two of my favorites with you. In the comments, tell me the most recent book you bought just for the cover, for a chance at a $10 Amazon or B&N gift card.

time of the dark by barbara hamblyOne book cover that I still remember, eons later, is the original cover from Barbara Hambly’s first book, The Time of the Dark. It’s fantasy, and it’s one of those stories about people crossing back and forth between our world and a place where magic operates. The cover stuck with me because the picture is perfect; a wizard in full regalia, sitting at a card table, with a can of Budweiser in his hand. That’s the story, right there. Except, of course, there’s more.

outlander by diana gabaldon original coverAnother book, one I still have, is Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander. The original cover, not the later plain covers that she uses now. But the first one. Again, it’s a perfect teaser for the story inside; a dirk, a plaid and a broken clock. It’s gorgeous and slightly over-blown, but then so is the story.

Here is my giveaway!

Wicked Nights Blog Hop

naughty nights2

There’s a saying about one person’s taste being another person’s poison (not that poison isn’t a different kind of wicked!)

So, I’m not going to tell you what your favorite wickedness is. Instead, I’m giving away a $10 Amazon or B&N Gift Card so that you can choose your own particular favorite type of wicked read. (Although if you haven’t read Jane Kindred’s The Fallen Queen and ALL the wonderful sequels, I am happy to recommend…or Victoria Vane’s equally naughty Devil DeVere series…)

Fool for Books Giveaway Hop

Happy April Fools’ Day and welcome to the Fool for Books Giveaway Hop, hosted by I Am a Reader, Not a Writer.

Aren’t we all “fools for books”? I joke that I am a biblioholic, meaning a book addict, and it’s true! Just check out any one of my Stacking the Shelves posts to see exactly what I mean.

I’m especially a fool for science fiction and fantasy and romance, or any combination of the above, like steampunk and urban fantasy and science fiction romance.

What books are you a fool for? Answer the question for a chance at a $10 Amazon or B&N Gift card.

Leaping Leprechauns & Frolicking Fairies-The All Things Irish Blog Hop

Welcome to Leaping Leprechauns & Frolicking Fairies – The All Things Irish Blog Hop!

This hop is hosted by Gin’s Book Notes and Candace’s Book Blog, and is a celebration of all things Irish or Fairy-related. Today, Celtic myths are us!

I used to live in Chicago, and every St. Patrick’s Day the city dyes the Chicago River green! This year, the “greening of the river” happened on Saturday, March 15, so that the town could get started on their celebrating early.

green river 1It just feels wrong that St. Patrick’s Day is a Monday this year–this is a holiday that seems almost designed to be a weekend!

But maybe by the actual day you’ll be all celebrated out, and ready to curl up with a good book or two. Here’s where the hop comes in.

I’m giving away a $10 Gift Card from either Amazon or B&N, or for international hoppers, a book from Book Depository up to $10. The winner will be able to make their own little celebration. To enter my hop, just fill out the rafflecopter and tell us your favorite story about the Fae Folk or based on Celtic mythology.

Emma Bull’s War for the Oaks is still one of my favorites. Tell us yours!

The Sunday Post AKA What’s On My (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 3-16-14

Sunday Post

dancing with dragons by lorenda christensenCass is here this week, on the first or second leg (depending on how you count) of her grand cross-country move to New Mexico. She’s moving from the freezing to the melting parts of the U.S. (As they say, at least it’s a dry heat!)

I’m hoping that we’ll get in a dual review of Dancing with Dragons while she’s here (because, well, DRAGONS!). It will be fun (and weird) to do this while we can actually talk to each other, instead of just Google chat. It may go faster this way. It may go LOTS slower if we crack each other up too much.

There are three book giveaways still in progress this week, on paranormal romance, one contemporary/western, and one military/political thriller, plus the mega-tourwide giveaway from Emily Kimelman. Check ’em out!

Welcome to the Leap Into Books Giveaway Hop, hosted by I Am a Reader, Not a Writer and Jinky is Reading.

Even though there is no Leap Day this year (after all, it’s not a Leap Year), every day is a great day to leap into a new book!

Sometimes you get a “book hangover” and it can be hard to jump out of a terrific book you’ve just finished. But there’s always another book just waiting.

One lucky winner will have a little help leaping into their next book. I’m giving away a $10 Gift Card to the winner’s choice of either Amazon or Barnes & Noble. All you have to do is fill out the rafflecopter below.

If you’re looking for chances to leap into more books, check out the other blogs participating in the Leap Into Books Giveaway Hop.

The Sunday Post AKA What’s On My (Mostly Virtual) Nightstand 2-23-14

Sunday Post

This was a terrific week! So many of the books I reviewed weren’t merely good, they were even better than I hoped. I love it when that happens.

The only downside is that I have to wait for the next book in the series. The minute I finish something good, I want to dive into the next book to see what happens next. The Obsidian Heart and Two Serpents Rise were particularly good at giving me “book hangovers”. Their worlds were so fascinating, that I didn’t want to leave.

Sunday Post

It’s warmed up a bit in Seattle, but on Wednesday no one cared about the temperature. 700,000 people lined the streets downtown for the Seahawks’ welcome home parade. The library faces the parade route, so we had a marvelous (and warm) view of the whole thing. What a blast!

Between the Share the Love Giveaway Hop and the Fire and Ice Blog Hop there are two chances to win a $10 Amazon or B&N gift card. Both hops are open until February 15.

Fire and Ice Blog Hop : Hot Reads for Cold Nights

Welcome to the Fire & Ice Blog Hop!

This hop is hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings, My Guilty Obsession, Candace’s Book Blog and The Nocturnal Library. Not only are there four wonderful hosts, but there were several marvelous variations for the hop button. The adorable little snow guy just happens to be my favorite, but check out the others at the host sites, or at all of the participants listed below.

The theme is hot books for cold nights. I don’t know about where you are, but even Seattle has been unseasonably (unreasonably) cold this winter. Curling up on the couch with a hot book (and maybe some hot chocolate) has been a pretty fantastic idea this winter.

Even the blog at my place of work got into the act; the Romantic Wednesdays column on January 29 was “Hot Reads for Cold Nights“, and we picked some books guaranteed to warm you up.

I’ve read some pretty hot books this winter too! If you’re looking for something to warm you up, and you love historical romance, you can’t go wrong with Victoria Vane’s Devil DeVere or for history with a paranormal twist, Jane Kindred’s House of Arkhangel’sk and Demons of Elysium.

I’m sure you all have your own recommendations for hot reads on cold nights! Fill out the rafflecopter to suggest a few, and maybe you’ll win that gift card. So you can buy more hot books!
