Oh the Places You’ll Go Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the third annual Oh! the Places You’ll Go Giveaway Hop, hosted by The Kids Did It and The Mommy Island.

While the theme of this hop is back to school, the name of this hop was inspired by a Dr. Seuss book, titled Oh, The Places You’ll Go. While it may not be one of his more famous books, the cover is certainly in the classic Seussian style.

But Dr. Seuss, or Theodor Seuss Geisel (his real name) was not just a children’s book author. He was also an editorial cartoonist during World War II. Those cartoons have also been turned into a book, Dr. Seuss Goes to War. The style may be the same, but the themes are very different.

What places will you go? Will you be a traveler or an armchair traveler? Or both? For just a little something to help with at least an armchair trip, answer the question in the Rafflecopter for your chance at your choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository.

September Of Books Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the September Of Books Giveaway Hop, hosted by It Starts at Midnight and Flylef!

Of Books is the successor to the Monthly Book of Choice Giveaway Hop. The theme is the same, just with more hosts and more participating hops!

The question, as always, is the following: In the upcoming month of books, which one (or ones) are you looking forward to the most!

September is looking like a HUGE month for me. It’s actually a bit frightening to see how many books are coming out next month that I really, really want to read. If I had to pick one, it would be A Forgotten Place by Charles Todd, the next book in the Bess Crawford historical mystery series. But since I don’t have to pick just one and only one, there are a few others that have my reading heart beating faster, like Through Darkest Europe by Harry Turtledove, A Notorious Vow by Joanna Shupe, and Leverage in Death by J.D. Robb.

What about you? Just answer that question for your chance at your choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository – to help you get that book!

A+ Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the A+ Giveaway Hop, hosted by MamatheFox!

And welcome to my second blog hop of the week. I’m on vacation, so you have more chances to win either a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository.

This is a back-to-school themed hop. I don’t have children, so it seems weird to me that we’re already talking about back to school and we’re not that far into August. In my mind, and admittedly a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, school didn’t start until after Labor Day. Even college. Lots of my friends went to colleges that started the fall semester in mid-to-late-August, but mine didn’t start until mid-September or thereabouts.

The Gwinnett County Schools, the system where I live now, have already started! That just seems much too early. And too hot. But then I’m remembering schools that were not air conditioned, which I presume is no longer the case. Both June and September in Cincinnati could be pretty beastly hot. Being there in August would have been unrealistic unless they were air conditioned, which they most definitely were not at the time. But undoubtedly are now. Time marches on.

And now it’s time to march into the rafflecopter for your chance at the prize!

Lazy Days of Summer Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Lazy Days of Summer Giveaway Hop, hosted by Bookhounds!

It’s the middle of August, and while it may feel like it’s been hot forever and it’s going to be hot forever, the summer is really almost over. Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana. Cats like to lie in the sunshine, and humans like to laze around in these hot summer months.

The theme of this particular blog hop made me think of a classic summer song, Those Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer by Nat King Cole. I’m not quite sure whether I actually remember it being played when I was a child, although the timing is right, or whether I just remember hearing bits of it as part of ads for all those compilation albums that used to be on TV, seemingly all the time.

So, as the summer of 2018 sinks slowly and hazily below the horizon, take your chance on an Amazon Gift Card or a Book from the Book Depository to help while away those cold winter nights looming ahead in just a few short months.

A Scoop of Luck Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the A Scoop of Luck Giveaway Hop, hosted by MamatheFox!

First, I’m going to ask that you all wish me a little luck. I’m having some minor surgery today, so all wishes for a speedy recovery are very much appreciated!

The theme for this bloghop is all about luck. It makes me think of the song from My Fair Lady, the one that goes, “With a little bit of luck…) We can always use a little bit of luck. Or a little scoop of ice cream to make us feel lucky! At least lucky that someone invented ice cream to have on a hot summer’s day.

Speaking of ice cream, if there’s a Creamistry near you and you haven’t tried it, pick a hot day and go! They don’t just put in your mix ins before your eyes, they actually freeze your ice cream with liquid nitrogen right there while you wait. It’s awesome stuff, and a neat concept all rolled into one.

But speaking of luck, you might get lucky here in this giveaway. I’m giving away the winner’s choice of a $10 US Amazon Gift Card or a book from the Book Depository up to $10 US in value. This giveaway is open to anyone living anywhere that the Book Depository ships.

Seas the Day Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Seas the Day Giveaway Hop, hosted by MamatheFox!

One can take the name of this blog hop as a play on the Latin phrase carpe diem, meaning seize the day. Or one could translate “seas the day” into Latin, making it maria diem and not a sentence at all. And of course I’m being just a bit silly.

I took four years of Latin in high school – occasionally I have to trot it out just for giggles.

But it’s summer, meaning that there are plenty of long, hot days to seize – just perfect for melting into a good book. Also just plain melting.

About that good book, as my part of this blog hop I’m giving away the winner’s choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository. This prize is open to anywhere that the Book Depository ships, which is a lot of ships, boats, planes, and almost but not quite everywhere.

Splash into Summer Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Splash into Summer Giveaway Hop, hosted by Bookhounds!

We’re between the unofficial start of Summer (Memorial Day) and the official meteorological start of Summer, the Summer solstice on June 21. To be really, really technical about it, 6:07 AM on 6/21/18. Not that I’ll be awake to see it.

And it doesn’t matter, because the Summer solstice will be the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Well, not really. All days are 24 hours, after all. But the day with the longest amount of daylight. Here in Atlanta, the sun will rise at 6:26 AM and not set until 8:49 PM. This is the time of year when I miss living in Anchorage, where the sun doesn’t really set on the solstice – it just sort of dips below the horizon for a couple of hours. Or at least that’s the way it seemed.

It will also be warm on the solstice. That’s one way of putting it. In Atlanta it will be probably be hotter than Hades, and muggy to boot. A good day to stay where its air conditioned and curl up with a good book and a sleepy kitty.

To help you curl up with a good book, or sunbathe with a good book, I’m giving away the winner’s choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository. This giveaway is open to anyone within reach of the wonderful world-spanning folks at the Book Depository.

Have a fantastic summer!

Beach Reads Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Beach Reads Giveaway Hop, hosted by Stuck in Books.

This is my second hop in a row featuring beach reads – a term that still requires some definition. It seems that anything light and fluffy and usually paperback can be defined as a beach read if it comes out in the summer. I think the paperback idea got added in the definition because paperbacks fit in one’s beach bag and one doesn’t usually mind getting sand on or in them. They’re kind of disposable.

Of course, if I were reading on a beach I’d probably just wrap my iPad in a Ziploc bag. I do mind if it gets sand on or in it – and I certainly mind it if gets wet!

But while you’re reading at the beach, I’ll probably be over here, in the coolth (the opposite of warmth) of my air conditioner – absorbed in a good book.

Life’s a Beach Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the third annual Life’s a Beach Giveaway Hop, hosted by The Kids Did It and The Mommy Island.

it is now time for that great summer question – what on earth is a beach read? And how many of them can I cram into my summer?

Everyone has a different idea of what constitutes a good beach read. Based on the annual lists of “best beach reads” and the places one finds such lists, one might believe that there’s a lot of light fluffy reading involved. While you’re baking in the sun, a heavy book just doesn’t seem like the thing.

Although something that puts a chill up your spine on a steamy hot day might be just the ticket. Whatever floats your boat – especially if you are actually floating in a boat!

So here’s your chance to win either a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository – so that you can get started on your own beach reads, no matter where you actually plan to read them.

May I Suggest Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the May I Suggest… Giveaway Hop, hosted by Stuck in Books.

The theme of this hop is suggesting books to people. Specific people, as in, those of you who are reading this post and participating in the giveaway.

I participated in this hop last year, and came up with a set of books I’d still highly recommend, depending on what kind of book floats your boat. I’d add a few things, but then, there’s been a whole year’s worth of books since then. If you’re interested in romance, particularly angsty romance, I’d recommend Alisha Rai’s Forbidden Hearts series, starting with Hate to Want You. And if you want some good, snarky urban fantasy, I don’t think you can go wrong with the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne, starting with Hounded. The audio of the Iron Druid Chronicles is particularly good.

What about you? If someone asked you to suggest a book or two, what titles could you not resist shoving into their hands. Fill out the rafflecopter with your answer for your chance at a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository.
