Winter is Coming Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Winter is Coming Giveaway Hop,  hosted by The Kids Did It and The Mommy Island.

Winter is coming. Here in Atlanta, that may only be theoretical (it’s 60 here today) but it is coming. It may have already come where you are. In fact, it may have already come with a vengeance where you are!

As I’ve mentioned before, we have moved around a lot. We also moved over the summer. Last winter, the entire second floor of the house was freezing all winter. We’re still finding the hot spots and cold spots in this house, but we’ve already discovered we’re a location for one of Murphy’s Laws. The coldest room in the house is the master bathroom. It has two outside walls and it’s bloody freezing. Unfortunately that is one room where one is guaranteed to be spending at least some time partially unclothed. Talk about freezing your buns off!

The warmest room in the house is the downstairs  half bath, which, as you might imagine, only solves part of the problem with the above.

As both of us have a tendency to use the “throne room” as an otherwise cozy place to read, this is a bit of a problem – but I’m sure we’re motivated to figure it out.

But speaking of reading, winter is a terrific time to curl up with a good book, a cup of your hot beverage of choice, and a cuddly cat, dog, or other warm furry creature. To facilitate your resources for doing just that this winter, I am giving away the winner’s choice of either a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a book (or books if you can manage it) up to $10 in value from the Book Depository. Just answer the question in the rafflecopter for your chance at the prize!

December Of Books Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the December Of Books Giveaway Hop, hosted by It Starts at Midnight and Flylef!

The question, this month and every month, is what book or books are you most looking forward to this month?

As a special case for December, the question may possibly be what book or books are you most hoping to find among your holiday presents?

Because of the holidays, the period between Thanksgiving and New Years Day is a bit of a fallow period for publishing. Not many new books come out this month, particularly in comparison to the big spring and fall publishing seasons. Which doesn’t mean there aren’t a few really good books on the reading horizon.

And that’s an excellent thing, because the winter months are always a great time to curl up with a cup of tea or cocoa, a good book, and a sleepy cat.

There are a few books I’m really looking forward to this month. There are always a few books I’m looking forward to every month.

But this month in particular, there’s For the Sake of the Game, edited by Laurie R. King and Leslie S. Klinger. This is the latest entry in their annual collection of new stories inspired by the Sherlock Holmes canon, and it always contains one or more marvelous stories. I’m sure that this year will be no exception.

There are also two historical romances that look like a lot of fun. One is Not the Duke’s Darling by Elizabeth Hoyt. This is the first book in her new Greycourt series. It’s always good to get in at the beginning, because her series are always excellent. Eva Leigh’s London Underground series has certainly been terrific, so I’m also looking forward to the upcoming book in that series, Dare to Love a Duke.

And last but certainly not least, comes The Gown by Jennifer Robson, all about the fascinating women who made Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding gown. This book should be very, very grand indeed – just like the gown itself.

What about you? What book or books are you most looking forward to this month? Answer the question in the rafflecopter for a chance at your choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository!

Black Friday Book Bonanza Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Black Friday Book Bonanza Giveaway Hop, hosted by yours truly, Reading Reality, and the Caffeinated Reviewer!

On the one hand, Black Friday isn’t quite what it used to be. It used to be THE semi-official start to the holiday shopping season – not that some frighteningly organized people didn’t get their shopping done well ahead of the season. With online shopping so convenient ALL THE TIME, one can hope that the madding crowds are a bit reduced. Certainly there are options that allow anyone so inclined (like moi) to avoid the proverbial Christmas rush altogether.

On that other hand, Black Friday got it’s name because that was the day when most retail stores began making a profit for the year, flipping their ledgers from red ink to black. I wonder if that part of the name still holds true?

One year we were in Vancouver, BC for Thanksgiving and the weekend after. It was very, very strange to see all the Black Friday sale signs in a place that did not have a Thanksgiving Thursday, as Canadians sensibly have their Thanksgiving holiday in October!

But here’s your chance to do a little shopping for yourself this Black Friday. Just answer the question in the rafflecopter for your chance at either a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository to treat yourself or someone else.

Super Stocking Stuffer Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the fourth annual Super Stocking Stuffer Giveaway Hop, hosted by The Kids Did It and The Mommy Island.

While it’s never too soon to start getting ready for the holidays, it IS just over a week before Thanksgiving, when the fun really begins!  It seems as if as soon as the turkey is roasted, even before the leftovers are consumed, the frenetic holiday season really begins.

“Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana,” but December flies like a super sonic transport – or a starship at high warp.

While you’re out – or while you’re online – shopping for everyone else, why not take just a minute to get something for your own Xmas stocking – or however you treat yourself during this holiday season?

I’m giving away the winner’s choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a book up to $10 US in value from the Book Depository. All you have to do is answer one little question in the rafflecopter below.

November of Books Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the November Of Books Giveaway Hop, hosted by It Starts at Midnight and Flylef!

The question, this month and every month, is what book or books are you most looking forward to this month?

Because of the publishing seasons, November is never as big a month as October, and December usually doesn’t have much at all. In theory, this gives me a chance to get make a tiny dent in the towering TBR pile, but the reality is that I just buy more books and/or get more books that aren’t due out for MONTHS!

Not that I don’t have at least a couple of books that I’ve just been dying for pretty much every month!

This month there are three, and they are all due out the same day, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Meaning I’ll have plenty of time to read them over the long Thanksgiving weekend – if I manage to resist temptation that long.

What are they?

First there’s Kingdom of the Blind by Louise Penny, the 14th book in the Chief Inspector Gamache series. If you like psychological mysteries, combined with a bit of police procedural and featuring a fascinating cast of regulars, this series is a gem. The first book, the one I pretty much throw at everyone who even hints that they like mystery, is Still Life.

The second book is The Mortal Word, the 5th book in the awesome Invisible Library series. Of course I LOVE this series. But it’s not so much about the library as it is the librarian, Irene Adler, her over-the-top adventures and her finally recognized love affair with her supposed assistant, who is a DRAGON!

Last but certainly not least, the 5th book in Mary Balogh’s absolutely lovely Westcott series, titled Someone to Trust. Considering that this entire series begins in Someone to Love when it is discovered that a dead bastard in the metaphorical sense (the bastardy is metaphorical, the death is not) left all of his children bastards in the legal sense, this series has gone some very interesting places and had marvelously heartwarming stories. And the late Humphrey Westcott is still a bastard.

There are also two books that I admit I got for the titles; They Promised Me the Gun Wasn’t Loaded by James Alan Gardner and An Elderly Lady is Up to No Good by Helene Tursten. Although completely different in genre, they both look like fun!

What about you? What book or books are you most looking forward to this month? Answer the question in the rafflecopter for a chance at your choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository!

Howl-O-Ween Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Howl-O-Ween Giveaway Hop, hosted by The Kids Did It and The Mommy Island.

It’s that time of year. Actually it feels like several “that” time of year. It is now the Pumpkin Spice time of year. And the Halloween candy in the store time of year – although I believe that anyone buying Halloween candy this early is buying it for themselves and not the trick-or-treaters!

It is theoretically fall, although that’s always a bit dubious here in Atlanta. It’s still in the 80s. In some neighborhoods its the season for Halloween decorating on the front lawn, although this neighborhood, not so much.

It’s also the time of year when I dip into the virtually towering TBR pile to pull one, well, let’s call it horror-adjacent book to read for Halloween. Horror is not my jam, but I do try to get into the spirit of the thing.

We’re in a new neighborhood again this year, so we’ll see how many trick-or-treaters ring our doorbell this time. There seem to be lots of kids around here, so we’re expecting a bunch!

But you might want to stay in with a good book this Halloween – or get a little bit of help buying that Halloween candy. Fill out the rafflecopter for a chance at your choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository.

October Of Books Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the October Of Books Giveaway Hop, hosted by It Starts at Midnight and Flylef!

Of Books is the successor to the Monthly Book of Choice Giveaway Hop. The theme is the same, just with more hosts and more participating hops! I’ve taken to calling it the [Insert Month Here] Of Books Giveaway Hop because everytime I saw it as just “Of Books” my brain kept reading it the same way as the names in The Handmaid’s Tale – and that just got too weird. And scary. But admittedly a bookish reference.

The question, as always, is the following: In the upcoming month of books, which one (or ones) are you looking forward to the most!

October is looking like the last really big month of the year for me. There are LOTS, TONS, OODLES of books coming out in October – then it all calms down until January. Not that there aren’t some cool-looking books coming out in November and December – just not nearly so many. Also it looks like blog hop season has begun. This one today, one tomorrow, and then one more before the end of the month.

Back to the books. There are a whole bunch of things I’m looking forward to this month. Admittedly, one I’ve already read (Astounding by Alec Nevala-Lee) and one I’m reading now (Six Cats a Slayin’ by Miranda James) But also The Bartered Brides by Mercedes Lackey, The Arrows of the Heart by Jeffe Kennedy and most especially Embrace the Romance: Pets in Space 3 by all my favorite (and hopefully a few to be discovered favorite) science fiction romance authors.

What about you? What book or books are you most looking forward to this month? Answer the question in the rafflecopter for a chance at your choice of a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a $10 Book from the Book Depository!
