Welcome to the Back to School Giveaway Hop, hosted by Review Wire Media!

This was kind of a last minute hop, which seems utterly apropos as back to school preparations seem to spring up on pretty much everyone at the last minute. And that’s true no matter how far in advance people know when the kids are going back to school. The ‘lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer’ feel like they’re going to last forever – until they’re abruptly over.

That it’s still more than hot enough at least in the Lower 48, to seem as if the dog days of the season are NEVER going to end makes that whole transition to Back to School seem just that much more sudden and even anti-seasonal.

But if you’re looking for a little something to help ease those hot and sultry dog days, or if you need a bit of a breather as you rush around with the after-the-last-minute school stuff that always crops up, here’s your chance for just a bit of a pick-me-up, courtesy of Reading Reality.

Back to School Giveaway Hop

It is that time again – even if it feels WAY TOO EARLY for it. The local schools here had their first days of in person classes yesterday and today – although there are “Digital Learning Days” scheduled throughout the year. The more things change, the more things remain the same – no matter which direction you are counting as “change” or “same”.

But the start of the school year also highlights that there is a teacher shortage. The combined Atlanta are school districts (Atlanta, Fulton Co., Gwinnett Co., and DeKalb Co.) had over 1,000 teacher openings just a couple of weeks ago. That might have gotten a bit better since then, but not that much. A lot of school districts have come up with various “band-aid” type strategies to make sure that there are at least enough adults to supervise all the classrooms. We’ll all see what solutions districts come up with – and whether or not they work! – in the months ahead.

Nevertheless, for a lot of parents, this is the week where they mark that their kids are another year bigger and older and possibly more mature. The pictures my friends and colleagues are posting on FB to compare last year’s first day of school to this year’s certainly point out how quickly time flies!

Back to School Giveaway Hop

Just like last year, this is the second giveaway hop with a “back to school” theme. Very much unlike last year, this year that return to school will be digital-only for a lot of kids – and parents.  I imagine that every parent has learned some surprising things, both good and bad, about digital learning and just how difficult teachers’ jobs actually are. As well as trotting out an entire new vocabulary of “under their breath” curses and quite possibly some interesting drink recipes.

There’s a reason why the phrase “May you live in interesting times” is a CURSE and not a blessing. This is an adventure, in the sense that an adventure is something you wish was happening either long ago, far away, or to SOMEONE ELSE! Preferably all of the above.

Still, even though this is “Back to School” time, however that school might be conducted, we don’t ever really stop learning. And that’s a good thing!

Back to School Giveaway Hop

This is the second blog hop this month with a “back to school” theme – so it must be that time again!

What’s the best thing you remember about going back to school? Or the worst? I never was a morning person, so on breaks I would sleep late and then stay up late. I always had another book to read. My mother always swore that someday that would change, but it hasn’t happened yet!

I loved learning new things but hated being told that I HAD to read something. So I read a lot, but usually the “wrong” things. Or at least books not assigned. Some things don’t seem to change!
