Today is Juneteenth! And for the very first time, it’s a federal holiday. While it’s about time for the holiday, it is kind of amazing that it got signed into law this week and immediately went into effect. Next year, Juneteenth will be on the same Sunday as Father’s Day.

Now’s a great time. Tor Essentials is putting out a new edition of his most famous series, Book of the New Sun. I read them years ago and am really looking forward to going back!

I remember loving one of John M. Ford’s books (The Dragon Waiting) but finding it sooo difficult and allusive that I actually read it with an online companion (The Draco Concordans), so I’ve been debating whether to try The Scholars of Night! Hmm… hope you enjoy it, anyway!

I loved Dragon Waiting. Seriously loved it. I never read most of his other stuff – except the Star Trek novels which were surprisingly excellent! I’m really curious about Scholars of Night myself!

I loved his Book of the New Sun when it came out – still have the old SFBC editions. I’m looking forward to seeing if it holds up to a reread. He’s VERY interesting.
