Covergasm Blog Hop

covergasm
Welcome to the Covergasm Blog Giveaway Hop, hosted by Herding Cats and Burning Soup!

Since this hop is all about fantastic book covers, I’m going to share two of my favorites with you. In the comments, tell me the most recent book you bought just for the cover, for a chance at a $10 Amazon or B&N gift card.

time of the dark by barbara hamblyOne book cover that I still remember, eons later, is the original cover from Barbara Hambly’s first book, The Time of the Dark. It’s fantasy, and it’s one of those stories about people crossing back and forth between our world and a place where magic operates. The cover stuck with me because the picture is perfect; a wizard in full regalia, sitting at a card table, with a can of Budweiser in his hand. That’s the story, right there. Except, of course, there’s more.

outlander by diana gabaldon original coverAnother book, one I still have, is Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander. The original cover, not the later plain covers that she uses now. But the first one. Again, it’s a perfect teaser for the story inside; a dirk, a plaid and a broken clock. It’s gorgeous and slightly over-blown, but then so is the story.

  1. Moon called by patricia briggs ( french cover) i remember i picked it then put it back on the shelves to come back 5min later becaus ei really couldn’t resist^^
    thank you for the giveaway

  2. Spells by Aprilynne Pike…and it turned out to be the second book in the series-whoops! At least it’s pretty 😉

  3. I don’t buy based only on cover….It draws my attention to read the blurb but what the book is about, is the most important thing. But the cover of Yield to Me by Sarah Castille got my attention and the blurb enticed me to purchase it.

  4. Hmm, that’s tough. It’s been a while since I bought a book based on a cover, but I pick books to review based on covers all the time. I would say the Joanna Wylde Reaper’s MC series was definitely one of them and Jeanette Murray’s Marine trilogy too.

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  5. I don’t buy just for the cover anymore–too many books in my house, and not enough money! Paul Richmond’s cover for Sam Kadence’s EVOLUTION is my favorite right now…

  6. I’d have to say the Club Shadowlands series by Cherise Sinclair. But for my Kindle 😉 thanks for sharing!

  7. I didn’t buy it because of the cover, but I checked out Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini because of the gorgeous cover art.

  8. A great cover might get me to pick the book up, but is rarely the deciding factor…..so the only book I bought for only because of the cover (and pictures) would have to be Evolution, by Joe Manganiello — ’cause hey…I can look at pics of Joe Manganiello working out ALL day!!

    Thanks for the amazing giveaway!

  9. I truly can’t think of a book I bought based mostly on the cover. If I don’t like the blurb, I won’t buy it, no matter how glorious the cover might be. I’m just not really a cover-buyer. I do love Chuck Wendig’s Mockingbird, Blackbird, and Cormorant covers. They are glorious.

  10. The last actual hard copy book I bought was a manga and it was mostly for the art work and a little for the story. The last ebook I bought I bought not for the cover but because of the blurb and who the author was.

  11. I don’t think i ever really bought a book just for a cover, i look at covers as they are important however they tie in with the story so to me they go together i would not buy a book based on a cover alone it would be on both genre and excerpt and cover all three. thank you for the giveaway.

  12. Probably Pride and Prejudice, which I collect. It’s a story that makes me happy and over time I’d acquired quite a few copies so I thought, why not make a collection out of it 🙂

  13. I don’t buy books based on covers alone, but I like it when the cover reflects the story blurb.

  14. I also don’t buy books for their cover anymore. I did it once the cover was amazing but the storyline sucks !
    Lesson learned.

  15. The last book that I bought mostly because of the cover was Dream of Danger (A Brown and De Luca Novella).‏

Thanks for taking part in the hop! Have a great weekend!

  16. I don’t buy books mostly for their covers; that’s just an attention-getter. The last covergasm worthy book I read was Burrowes’ The MacGregor’s Lady.

  17. Bec Mcmaster’s London Steampunk is a series that I initially bought because of the beautiful covers. The bonus was that they were fantastic books.

  18. I don’t usually buy books for their covers anymore, I usually read the blurb and reviews. Recently I liked The House on Hancock Hill.

  19. The last book I bought based solely on the cover was probably Cruel Beauty 🙂

  20. The last book I bought mostly because of the cover would have to be Without Doubt by CJ Azvevedo =)

  21. The Selection by Kiera Cass.
Thanks a lot for the giveaway!

  22. This may be cheating a little because I know the author, but her cover is gorgeous so I’d have to answer your question with Tallas by Cathrina Constantine.

  23. I got Tempest Rising just from the Cover alone by Nicole Peeler.

  24. I think the last one I bought because of the cover was These Broken Stars which is my favorite cover ever!

  25. I make sure I also like the blurb if I’m going to buy a book and My Lady Quick Silver by Bec McMaster caught my attention for both reasons 😉

  26. i would say the last one was miss peregrine’s home for peculiar children.

  27. I genuinely cannot remember the last time I bought a book based on the cover alone :p

Thank you for the chance to win!

  28. i don’t buy books because of the cover but they can sure grab your attention and read the back blurb, boring cover won’t pick it up to even look

  29. I never buy a book simply for its cover. But I must say some book’s covers really attract me like ‘Finding My Way’ has attracted me recently.
